Welcome everyone, this week’s feature in continuing the celebration of International Women’s Day is this amazing woman, who overcame a number of personal challenges in her life. Please welcome none other than, Louise Grant!
Immigrating from the sunny island of Jamaica this amazing woman came to Toronto, Canada in the 1970’s to make a better life for herself. Growing up with 13 other siblings it comes as no surprise that at least one of the pack would be a fighter.
Uncertainty in a foreign place
After living in Canada and embracing its culture, Louise like most others, who migrated to Canada lived in storefront apartments in the downtown area, eventually moving in a high rise building in North York. One of her aspirations was to own a home but with little money saved, not being well informed about the housing market and friends who tried to persuade her from buying a house in the 1980’s, things seemed bleak. However, it was that enate determined spirit that caused her to step out and make strides to purchase her first home.
When asked about how she felt when faced with the challenges of having doubters trying to persuade from buying and not being knowledgeable about the housing market, she said, “well all I know, I was never a quitter. No matter what obstacle came my way, I still decided I’m doing it even if the end result is unfavorable.”
Her success
Now almost 40 years later, Louise in the prime of her life (being in her 60’s) has accomplished much in real estate and business. In 1984 she purchased her first home, in the early 90’s she had purchased her second home, started a trucking company and in the mid 90’s purchase a condo as an investment. Coming into the millennial Louise began to overcome her fears of obstacles and began to develop the attitude of a tycoon for business and real estate. In the mid-2000’s she sold both properties, dissolved her trucking business, bought an upscale home in the suburbs, started a new and used car dealership, purchased two properties in the United States, purchased another investment property and is currently looking into another business venture.
Phenomenal if this isn’t encouraging, I don’t know what is. Let us take this time out and celebrate a wife, mother of two, grandmother, business owner, real estate tycoon and minister!
